The Magic of theTellingTouch!

I met Sue at the poets' conference this past summer. We've kept in touch. Sue also met Cres at the poets' conference and has since told her about me. Cres is co-authoring a lovely book of poetry to benefit charity. Cres has been in touch with me and has told me about the book, inviting me to be a contributing author and co-founder of the Windows of Humanity, a charitable organization.

That's the Magic of the TellingTouch!

I lost a dear friend, Elaine, in a car accident a few years ago. Elaine was a poet, too, one who always wore a smile. Just last night I was reading her words through tear-filled eyes. Elaine was telling me something more than words alone could impart. I've told Cres about Elaine. And now Elaine's poetry will be memorialized in our book!

That's the Magic of the TellingTouch!

Dedicated to Elaine, who is smiling still....

IMMORTAL SMILE

Beneath the smile

Were doubts, I knew,

For once I caught her picking out potatoes

With look subdued.

Alas! Unaware!

See! See! The truth!

Such was my tone of gleeful accusation--

So sly, so couth!

Ill silence then

We gaped--paralyzed

Undone at the scene’s puppeteering;

Both victimized.

Of comfort’s need

No words were mentioned.

Searching mute in the bin for potatoes without eyes

Were now two friends.

Her smile I’ll miss!

The light! The love!

Which were once unearthed in a grocery store aisle--

Yet n’ere divulged.

Oh! She smiled

All the time they said!

Yes, always a smile and a kind word were hers too--

But now she’s dead.

My sorrow has

Outlived them all

For the missing smile revealing her mortality

Long ago, I saw.

Love---Saijin 9/11/06
